Institute of Machines and Power Engineering
Where can you find us?
The institute is based in the CEMMTECH building on the UJEP campus. There are offices for staff and management, classrooms and laboratories for lectures. In the second building of the institute on the street “Za Válcovnou” there are laboratories for special fluid flow measurements (Laboratory of optical anemometric methods) and the Virtual Prototyping Centre specialised in 3D printing methods. These laboratories are also used by PhD students.

Laboratory instrumentation
Electrical Engineering Laboratories
The electrical engineering laboratories measure active quantities of electrical circuits, passive parameters of electrical components and parts of electrical equipment. Basic and advanced measurements are performed on electrical machines and devices to analyse their parameters and operating characteristics. Moreover, analyses of the consumption and quality of electrical energy consumed by electrical equipment in common use and by equipment used in industrial practice are carried out in these laboratories.
Thermodynamic laboratories
In these laboratories, you will learn about flow and heat transfer problems. You will carry out and learn about a variety of measurement methods ranging from the most common methods of measuring thermodynamic quantities, which are tools for the analysis of systems and processes in the energy industry, to more sophisticated ones, such as thermography or optical anemometry (PIV – Particle Image Velocimetry). You will be carry out experiments in, for example, aerodynamics, hydromechanics or heat transfer.
Mechanical design laboratory
In addition to solving common problems from the field of mechanics of rigid and flexural bodies, you will learn about numerical simulations that allow you to analyse stresses and strains in various conditions.
Automation Laboratories
These laboratories are equipped with simulators for learning automation. Each simulator has a basic set of pneumatic circuits, electro-pneumatic circuits and PLC controllers. You will also learn how to program and operate a universal 6-axis robot or a robotic arm with an ejector gripper.
Virtual Prototyping Centre
In these laboratories, you can use your knowledge of design and modelling to bring your ideas to the real world through 3D printing technology. We have a wide range of printers with different printing technologies (FDM, SLA, CFF – composites). During the course of your studies, you will also learn about the possibilities of 3D printing technology and other technologies, such as surface treatment of printed objects.
